TEACHER HITS THE "MATH TRAIL" AND REACHES SUCCESS WITH STUDENTS

High school teacher Lisa Ledwith works as hard as her students at Germantown Academy, near Philadelphia, to help them succeed in math by participating in an innovative program called the National Math Trail, sponsored by SERC, a Star Schools project. Lisa Ledwith Each year, Ledwith takes her students on a one-day field trip to Philadelphia for interactive exploration of the math found everywhere - from the classroom to the larger, everyday environment. Why is the challenge and effort of a Math Trail project important to Ledwith? "We have to help our students understand math in new ways. Math is no longer just about number crunching. In order to succeed today, students have to learn how to work together and to master new concepts while learning how to apply math to solve problems." Read more about how Math Trail helps Lisa Ledwith and her students do just that.
