SAFETY-NET: Justice Distance Learning Consortium |
SAFETY-NET offers correctional facilities across the country access to the very best educational materials delivered via satellite and on-line -- for students, teachers and administrators. This project is a consortium of three states: Florida, New York and Texas. The focus is juvenile and youthful offenders -- a very "at-risk" population. The objective of the project is to provide teachers with multimedia educational resources they need to stimulate, educate, and inform their students in preparation for the world of work. SAFETY-NET provides programming that correlates with Florida, Texas and New York educational standards, as well as GED preparation and school-to-work activities. Professional development programming to help teachers in correctional facilities use multimedia products effectively is a high priority. At www.safety-net.com, an e-community of correctional educators share ideas, lesson plans, frustrations and successes.
