Jason logo Innovative Online Professional Development for the Busy Science Educator

The JASON Academy for Science Teaching and Learning will provide an innovative approach to professional development, beginning in September 2001. The goal of the academy is to enhance the science content background of teachers and provide them with the tools to help students learn more effectively. With an emphasis on the physical sciences for middle level, grades 4-9, teachers of science, the JASON Academy will offer science content courses on thematic topics. Academy courses adhere to the National Science Education Standards.

The JASON Academy provides 12 five-week, 50 contact-hour, online science content modules that can be accessed according to teacherŐs own schedules and locations. Lab Packs containing computer software, computer-based science analysis equipment, and student activities will serve as the Academy textbook.

The JASON Academy's Anytime, Anywhere Science Courses for Teachers provide low-cost science education alternatives for any teacher who can access the Internet. Upon successful completion of a JASON Academy course module, students can receive five Continuing Education Units, one graduate-level course credit or one undergraduate course credit from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
