Corrections Learning Network |
The Corrections Learning Network (CLN) is a distance learning initiative, providing interactive satellite broadcast instructional programming for the nation's correctional communities. Administered by Educational Service District 101, operator of the STEP*Star Network, the Corrections Learning Network provides valuable resources and links for the youthful and adult offender populations, who have very limited exposure and access to life skills, transitional and work-related information. In addition to the over 700 hours of offender-specific programming, CLN also provides over 100 hours of professional development for correctional educators and administrators. Corrections has one of the fastest growing, but most under-served education audiences in the country. Research indicates that workforce training and education are significant factors in reducing recidivism in incarcerated individuals. When technology in integrated into the learning process, time on-task increases, retention improves, and the opportunity to individualize instruction, geared to the specific learning style / learner grows. While the programming, based on national standards, is available to correctional facilities throughout the nation, partners include the Alaska Department of Corrections, the Alaska Division of Juvenile Justice, and the West Virginia Department of Education.
