Do you want to teach with the Internet?
-- What do you need to know? What support will your learners need?
At the very least, this site will help you become a more critical consumer of distance education opportunities. And you can use it to begin your own distance eduation project -- to design effective instruction using the Internet.
The site is structured into eleven sessions. You'll find readings, links to other sites, and a sequence of activities to get you started on your own design. The sessions are organized in two units:
-
Unit I: The Online Medium: Beyond The Classroom includes six sessions that provide an orientation to the Internet as an educational medium.
- Unit II: Producing for 'Net Based Learning: includes five sessions that focus on strategies and tools used for producing Web-based instructional experiences.
We'll try to avoid technical and educational jargon, but some terms are unavoidable. If you're familiar with their meaning, read on! Otherwise, you can check our online glossary for a definition by clicking on any unfamiliar terms highlighted in red -- e.g., Internet or distributed learning.
Before you begin, please read through the Overview for some basics: the assumptions we're making about you, the goals of this site, and the technology you'll need.
